The Common Denominator
11.12.2008 ||
: Teff, Catherine, LexEvery morning, on my way to work, I listen to the local radio station. When they feel like it, they take a listener's email or phone question and open it up to discussion. Usually, it's about some scandalous situation that can easily merit a reaction. "My baby momma is sleeping with my brother and his wife and kids do not know." You know, Maury-type stuff. Several mornings ago (more like 3 weeks ago), a lady calls in with her relationship woes. She said that she was in the process of divorcing her husband and that she might swear off men completely and just look to women as the solution.
My eyes rolled so far back in my head that I almost went blind. Seriously. That is not a good scenario whilst driving.
So let me get this straight. Your marriage doesn't work, so you think turning lesbian will magically murder the my-marriage-sucks problem? Why is it that most people look outside for the problems instead of looking within?
She gave no justification, no explanation to her thought process... just that she was going to now seek women and she wanted the radio station listeners to call in with their opinions. My opinion, drumroll please........ is that she obviously needs to work on HERSELF. Why is it that women blame the total male species, albeit they're truly clueless, for all of their relationship woes? Do you honestly think that being with a woman makes it better? Hate to break it to you, honey, women are crazy too, if not moreso.
It's just that (
When does one look at herself and say, "Crap. It's me. I am A, B, and C, and I really should work on MY happiness, MY goals, MY dreams and make myself THAT much more ready when the the right guy comes along"? Why are we trying to change variables out of our control, i.e. Men, and ignore the variables that we CAN control, i.e. US? Are we masochistic?? If he cheated, he cheated, his loss. But maybe you stopped paying attention to the things he likes to do. Maybe you closed up and stop talking to him the way you used to. Ever thought of that? No, I'm not saying it's ALWAYS the woman, or the man, or the man-woman, or woman-man. Just... it's a two way street. If you're the common denominator, doesn't it make sense to find the variable that might change that?
I've dated. A lot. I've dated short men, tall men, funny men, handsome men, not-so-handsome men, model-type men, athletic men, business men, racist men (long story), boring me, momma's boy men, cocky men, who-obviously-have-never-dated men etc. It wasn't until I found myself... worked on ME, and developed a good relationship with ME that I stumbled upon MY MAN, and without consulting him for a quote, he is appreciative of that.
He didn't have to pick up my broken pieces and put me together before he could have me. I was, as is, put together. I had direction, I had my dreams, and I could take care of myself. He didn't have to suffer through my tall tales of a horrible ex-boyfriend who scarred me for life. I picked up my own pieces, dealt with my shortcomings, and used some mighty fine super glue to hold it all together. What did he get for that? He got a confident woman who bought her own car, prescribes her own Rx for the shopping addiction, relies on herself to do whatever she wants, and does not blame him or any other man for any of HER mistakes in relationships past and present.
While I can't say that I ever thought to turn to a woman in the midst of my frustrations dating very incompatible men (aside from turning to my girlfriends to cry, down ice cream and throw darts and said-dude's blown up face), I CAN say that I took hiatuses from dating, took a step back, and saw the big picture: if I ever wanted to have a good, solid relationship worthy of a man keeping, I should work on myself. Enter the Period of Dating Hiatus for some time. Then, a month back into dating, after I was ready to challenge myself again... I met him. Now, we're getting married.
So lady, instead of trying to gain attention by calling the radio show on your quest to now be with a woman, go fix yourself. (Sounding high and incomprehensible on the show, I think she needed to anyway.)

My Role Model
10.15.2008 ||
: Catherine, Snow_love, TeffI don't like to post about political issues. I'll make an exception since the most interesting debate is on at the moment. Regardless of which candidate I vote for this year, I just want to clarify one thing.
McCain, I'm not sure which women in this country you're consulting, because Palin sure as hell is not a role model of mine.
I guess you could consider her a reformer since she doesn't answer questions about, oooohhh I don't know... the government (it must be a coincidence that the word "governor" is VERY similar to government though. Weird.) I mean the other politicians answer questions. Why does SHE have to? She doesn't! She's a reformer! She doesn't read newspapers either. I'm ignoring the whole dinosaur comment because I cannot bring myself to believe that an educated female public figure would shame women everywhere with such a false conviction. I guess she's a reformer in that winks can now be a politician's platform. Ummm... and I suppose not pronouncing the "g" at the end of words such as goinG and avoiding all questions that were not rehearsed is reform.
I'm just saying. She's not my role model.

They Made Me Fat
8.26.2008 ||
: Catherine, Snow_love[warning] I occassionally go on rants and most of you will not agree with me or call me insensitive and judgmental, fine. I'm not here for validation. [/warning]
Why is it that people are so much less self-responsible now? Or does it only seem that way because the few who b*tch about other people changing things b*tch so much that it sounds like more people are like that?
I used to LOVE KFC--trans fats and all. It tasted delicious. Then, they had to change the oil or recipe to remove the trans fats. Why? Because people were suing them for making them fat. Excuse me? Did the Kentucky Fried Chicken man drive you into his restaurant and shove the chicken thighs down your throat? I don't think so. If he did, that's how I'd want to be kidnapped. Chicken all day: I am salivating already...
Did he make you order the family-sized meal for YOURSELF? I don't think so. If you, the awesome autonomous human being that you are, ordered that food and ate it knowing that eating more than 10 greasy-fried breasts, thighs (mmm, thighs are my favorite), and supersized fries with pounds of ketchup would make you overweight to say the least, then you are responsible for your own fatness (notice I say FATness, not PHATness). Not KFC. Don't force KFC to take away that flavor that I, who can mostly be assured to stop eating if I am full, love. Sometimes I can't... and I can deal with that. I won't have guilt over that.

Taken from: Mahalo.com
It doesn't stop there. Tons of restaurant chains have removed the delicious-goodness of trans-fats from their menus. This is my question/gripe: If they are so worried about the health of people... why isn't something that I can't control, but harms me, banned? For example, smoking. Really, if people think corporate America should take away all that entices the human if it is unhealthy, why not take away the smoking section? Second hand smoke harms me more than the obese person sitting next to me whilst enjoying a deep fried bloom of onion rings. The fat person eating every burger off the menu next to me does not harm me. They are doing self-harm, but apparently, protecting people from themselves is more important than protecting people in general. Maybe this just calls for a warning on the fast food labels.
Consumption of this food product can be addictive and potentially lead to you overeating. You could gain a lot of weight and jeopardize your health. You might find yourself being driven to this establishment so that the manager can shove trans fats down your throat as well. Because these warnings have been printed on this label, we cannot be sued for serving you delicious food. Enjoy and use your autonomy to come back many more times!
I'm not neglecting the fact that there are food addictions just as much as any other disease, but I don't think that the flavor should be removed from the food I love because people have no self-control. I don't believe that protecting people from themselves should be in the jurisdiction of the MAN.
And yes, I'm not neglecting the other argument points that the poor can afford fast food better than other "healthier foods" which is why poorer people statistically eat less healthy. No, I didn't foget all that. I am JUST referring to the overeaters who have that choice--the people who CHOOSE, yes choose, not forced to eat that food.
This applies to so much more. Self-responsibility. If you choose to do or not do something and you don't favor the consequences, what sense does it make to blame someone else? It's easy to SAY that you'll change something, for sake of the example I'll say eating habits. It's EASY to SAY that you'll change your eating habits, but therein lies the difficulties of life. Life isn't supposed to be easy. Nothing is supposed to fall on your laps because you will it in your mind. If you want to make more money, do the work and get a better job. If you want to find a bf/gf, fix yourself and make your own moves. If you say you can't, you won't. If you want to get out of a rut, remove yourself from everyone and everything keeping you in the rut for a day and figure out where you want to be. These things aren't easy, but blaming other bodies (i.e. government, laws, corporations) for your own problems doesn't make it EASIER, does it? If I gained 200lbs, I would have no one else to blame but myself... unless of course the local Burger King manager was my neighbor and repetitively hog tied me and tortured me with tickles until I succumbed to a double whopper with cheese. Seriously?
Life's not on Easy Street. I was blessed since I know what I want, which for some takes a little longer, but that is OK. I worked my ass off to be where I am and if I can put in that energy to pursue what I want, I have a hard time believing other people can't do the same... even eventually.
Don't freakin' sue the fast food place because you're eating there everyday. Crazy ass. This is ludacris. I'm going to Burger King.

Ebay, the Feel-Good Forum
7.25.2008 ||
: Snow_love, CatherineLast night, I bought something from Ebay for a WHOPPING total of $5! (Woohoo!). I paid right away as I always do and then I get the email from the girl selling it. This is the chain:
She writes:
i am out of town at a family wedding for a week. i can not mail your item until next thursday . so sorry thanks fr your understanding.
My turn:
I sent payment right away! It should have been stated in the listing that it would not be delivered until a week later.
Her insightful response:
all te other people i told i was out of town, congradulated me on the wedding. you thought only of your $3 item , you seem very materialistic, selfish. i am sure you are NOT these things but i am only telling you since maybe you need to do some deeper reflecting into your soul and to what is really important in life. it is how one acts not what they own....i will send the item as fast as i can
My 'bitch, please' response:You have GOT to be kidding me. You're selling stuff on EBay and if you can't deliver right away after a customer pays--then you need to tell them. Congratulate you for your FAMILY wedding? Ebay is not a forum for building relationships and soul searching. It is for selling and buying. I am your customer, don't email me with your bs soul searching and materialism speech. Advertise one week later and it would have been fine. I don't appreciate the rudeness. I paid right away--I did my job as YOUR PAYING customer.
No response yet from her. Weird... Ebay changed the feedback policies so that buyers cannot receive negative or neutral feedback, yet some sellers are still crap.
I guess if I ever wanted to buy some soul-searching advice from a horrible speller, I'd know where to go

Battle Wounds
7.18.2008 ||
: Catherine , Snow_loveEarlier last week, my car got rear-ended by this young girl wearing the largest sunglasses I have ever seen. She went on for a mile a minute about how sorry she was. In the end, I had a minor scratch, so I nixed calling the cops and went on my way. If my bumper was dented, I would have gone off on her huge-glass-wearing behind. Good thing my baby was OK.
Now, I feel like I got punched in the face. I went tubrewing this past weekend with, and I'm estimating, 20+ people. It wasn't the same as last year since D went to my best friend's bachelor party, so I kind of hung out by myself... I was one of those stupid girls who missed her fiancé
. I'll blame that on PMS. Right when I got there, they were ready to jump off the bridge, literally, so I threw on my bathing suit and ran out with everyone. As SOON as I was in the suit and walked towards the bridge, I got eaten alive by mosquitos. I felt like I was vacationing in Vietnam again
.They ate me alive. I think I was attacked by a small green leech as well. My hand started this throbbing, numbing pain after I pulled some sucker-bug off if while getting into the river. When I pulled it off my left hand, it landed on my right hand, which started the whole numbing sensation all over again. All in all, I have about 15 mosquito bites with 5 on my face. I also got sunburnt badly while we tubed down the river. Stupid me, I didn't put on sunblock because the clouds were out. The tent I shared with my Karen got flooded in the early morning thunderstorm so all my stuff got wet. I got a cigerette burn on my arm while tubing too--I cannot stand smokers and that is ONE of the reasons. I'll save the smoker complaints from this post.
Last year's adventures were much better, but I did get some quality time with people.
