Joby, Inc. is pleased to announce the arrival of the Gorillapod Focus™, a unique, bendable tripod engineered to support SLR cameras with larger telephoto lenses or digital video cameras. Designed with professionals and motivated amateurs in mind, the Gorillapod Focus is the biggest, strongest Gorillapod® yet and is the fifth addition to the growing and award-winning Gorillapod family.

The Gorillapod Focus provides the stability of a standard tripod at a fraction of the size and weight – only 1.1 pounds (500g). Sturdy machined aluminum sockets, debuting in an anodized gunmetal finish, offer incredible flexibility while ensuring a rock-solid hold in almost any environment. The Gorillapod Focus uses a stainless steel screw for maximum strength to support an amazing 11 pounds (5kg) of gear. It’s shipped with a ¼-20 thread universal camera screw built in as well as a 3/8-inch adapter screw for use with professional ball heads.

Cleverly designed to help capture “hard to get” images like time-lapse, available-light, night-time or long-exposure, the Gorillapod Focus helps photographers refine their imaging skills. Wrap it around a railing, twist it around a tree branch, loop it onto a shopping cart, stand it on a table in the studio, or perch it on a rock during a hike! The possibilities for taking unique images are endless. And, it makes a great travel companion, folding up to fit in most gear bags.

At $149.95, Joby’s new Gorillapod Focus offers the same great features and functionality of all Gorillapods. The medium-sized members of the family are the Gorillapod SLR-Zoom for cameras up to 6.6 pounds (3kg) and Gorillapod SLR for cameras up to 1.75 pounds (800g). The lightweight, original Gorillapod supports compact digital cameras up to 11.5 ounces (325g). And, the Go-Go! is an original Gorillapod that comes with clips to attach cell phones, PDAs and music/video players for mobile entertainment on the go.

The Gorillapod debuted in February 2006 and now sells in over 40 countries. The Gorillapod Focus is available on-line at www.joby.com.

With the IQ CopyStation, altec ComputerSysteme GmbH introduces world’s fastest copy system for flash memory media duplication at electronica 2008. With a cumulative transfer rate from up to 2000 MB/s the IQ CopyStation is world’s fastest copy system for duplication of storage media contents.

IQ CopyStation is the first of altec’s wide range of CopyStations which will be able to work on a stand-alone basis. The data will be copied from one card containing the master image to the other cards, 20 card slots at most.
Via USB interface the IQ CopyStation can be connected to a PC. Several CopyStations can be attached to one host PC and can be operated and controlled with the new IQ PowerSoftware. With a multitude of copying features even more highly efficient copy actions as for stand-alone operation only are on-hand.

The totally new “Copying On Insertion” copy mode allows continuously insertions with flash memory media. As soon as a card is inserted into a card slot, its programming starts automatically. This way a permanent copying process takes place. After copying the user changes the copied card with a new card, copying starts automatically. The “Copying On Insertion” technology minimizes delays you normally have by changing memory media.

“With this new innovative IQ CopyStation we offer world’s most efficient copy output to our customers,” explains altec’s Managing Director Olaf Meier. “The fact that the programming of each card starts immediately when inserting it is unique so far. Our customers will gain a lot of time using IQ CopyStation,” says Olaf Meier.

The new IQ CopyStation is now available to copy content on MemoryStick M2.

It is planned to support other media types such as MemoryStick PRO Duo/HG in Q4, 2008 as well as SD/SDHC Card/MMC and microSD/SDHC in Q1, 2009.

altec can look back at a long-time experience in the field of card copy machines for mobile memory media and therefore offers a solution for every need. The portfolio consists of a broad variety of CopyStations for the duplication of card images.

Sony Style Launches Eco-Friendly Green Glove Service

Service Intended to Encourage Consumers to Recycle Old Televisions

As America Recycles Day approaches on Nov. 15, Sony Style is launching a Green Glove(SM) Service — its newest program to help curb the amount of e-waste that enters the nation’s landfills.

Green Glove service takes the legwork out of recycling by offering people the opportunity to have their old televisions hauled away and responsibly recycled when they use this premier in-home delivery service when purchasing a 32 inch diagonal or larger new Sony(R) BRAVIA(R) LCD television at a Sony Style store or direct at sonystyle.com.

In addition to delivering, unpacking and setting up the new Sony BRAVIA television, Sony service professionals will pick up at the consumer’s request old televisions for proper recycling as part of its national Sony Take Back Recycling program in partnership with Waste Management Recycle America.

According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, 82 percent of the 2.25 million tons of discarded TVs, cell phones and computer products in the last two years ended up in landfills. By recycling old electronics products, useful materials — such as glass, plastic and metals — can be collected and re-used in the manufacture of other products.

Typically, consumers who want to recycle their old TVs through the Sony Take Back program may drop off their electronics at a local Waste Management Recycle America drop off location (www.sony.com/recycle for locations). With the new Green Glove Service, Sony is making it even more convenient to recycle responsibly.

“Sony is in the forefront of industry recycling efforts by providing consumers another way to conveniently and responsibly dispose of their old electronics,” said Mike Fasulo, Sony Electronics’ chief marketing officer and head of the company’s corporate social responsibility efforts. “By giving consumers the opportunity to do the right thing, without even leaving their homes, we are able to make a lasting impact on the state of our environment by responsibly recycling these materials.”

Both Sony Electronics and Waste Management Recycle America are signatories to the Basel Action Network’s Manufacturers’ Commitment to Responsible E-Waste Recycling. This action signifies the companies’ agreement to conduct their electronics recycling programs transparently and in accord with rigorous environmental and worker safety standards, and adhere to measures to prevent the export of hazardous e-waste to developing countries.

The Sony Take Back Recycling program, which provides free recycling for all Sony products, is a national effort to recycle e-waste. The program also draws attention to the fact there are alternatives to trashing electronics, and that — through recycling — natural resources can be used again while greenhouse emissions are reduced in the process.

Since the affiliation began, Sony Electronics and Waste Management Recycle America have worked together to collect more than 11.9 million pounds of electronics waste, and the companies anticipate the number to grow exponentially in the years ahead.
