Vader Toast!

posted by Gary on November 10th, 2008

I’ve long held that toast is a nearly perfect food. Now, it’s even more perfect-er, in a total geek sort of way. For $55 you can get your hands on a toaster that burns the image of none other than Darth Vader on your toast. Here’s to a balanced breakfast, with the force.

Keith Olbermann on Prop 8

posted by gary on November 10th, 2008

MSNBC’s Keith Olbermann used his “Special Comment” this evening to weigh in on the Prop 8 vote in California.  If you have no idea what I’m talking about, first shame on you.  Second, read about it here.  Bottom line… the people of Kah-lee-forn-yah voted 52.3% to 48.8% to outlaw gay marriage.  Olbermann’s remarks are stellar and should be heard by everyone.  His bottom line - it’s a question of whether you are for or against happiness, plain and simple.

Bloggers band together

posted by Gary on October 8th, 2008

TubaPants will be participating in another blogosphere-wide effort coming up on the 15th of this month… it’s called Blog Action Day.

According to the site, “Blog Action Day is an annual nonprofit event that aims to unite the world’s bloggers, podcasters and videocasters, to post about the same issue on the same day. Our aim is to raise awareness and trigger a global discussion.”

This year’s theme is Poverty. So, if you have any brilliant ideas on what you’d like us to blog about that day, let me know. I have a couple ideas, but yours might be better. And, if you have a blog, I strongly urge you to participate as well.

According to media reports, quintessential voiceover god Don LaFontaine has passed away at the age of 68. His “In a world…” opening to seemingly every great movie trailer became his trademark.

Thanks to our buddy jim for the heads up on this.

Paris for President

I realize Paris Hilton and funny don’t always go together… at least not intentionally. But this is a pretty damn funny response to John McCain’s campaign ad that mentions her. Hold on to your shorts McCain and Barack Obama.

Take a look and judge for yourself. From the fine folks at FunnyOrDie.com.

Rush plays Rush

posted by Gary on July 27th, 2008

Legendary rock band Rush appeared on the Colbert Report last week, which was pretty awesome by itself. While they were waiting backstage, the show folks set up the band to tackle their own “Tom Sawyer” on Rock Band. Not bad for beginners, they scored 31% on expert mode.

Poker? I don’t even know her!

poker table

Are you like me and secretly (or not so secretly) addicted to those television poker shows?  No, I can’t explain it.  One could argue that watching poker on TV is the most boring thing on the planet.  And I can certainly see their point.  But I can’t help it.  I keep getting sucked in.  If you truly watch them, there’s tons of drama, strategy and just plain entertainment to be had.

Wouldn’t it be cool to bring some of that casino authenticity to your weekly poker games with the fellas?  I stumbled across a site with professional poker accessories called Flop2River.com.  They have poker tables, chips and a host of other stuff to make your basement game more legit.

Seriously, tell me your friends wouldn’t be impressed if you had a mahogany poker table like the one pictured above.  Throw in some real clay poker chips and you got yourself a game!  You can even get blank chips and order labels to customize with any design and text you want.  Now that’s hardcore.

And, if you’re into other games of chance, they have dice, blackjack accessories (tables, dealing shoes, etc.) and even that little plastic cut card like they use when shuffling the blackjack decks at the casinos.
