Out in the Wasteland

Just a quick update since I've been MIA since the end of October. I've been playing a lot of poker with some Fallout 3 thrown in for good measure. I'm actually starting to get back into video games a little more thanks to Bethesda's excellent game.

I've spent about 20 hours roaming the Wasteland in Fallout 3 and have barely scratched the surface of all there is to see and do. I'll likely put in some extra time with the game this week. I've been avoiding Fallout 3's main storyline but I may start heading down that path to see what sort of goodies and extras will come my way. It's sometimes hard to play these epic-scale RPGs without the motivation of the game's story driving you along (i.e. "can't see the forest for the trees" syndrome).

That's not to say that the Fallout 3's side missions are boring. Far from it! Each of the missions I've undertaken so far have been extremely well-constructed and interesting pieces of RPG-fare. Super mutants, robots, ghouls, and pest control have all contributed to make every minute of Fallout 3 a joy to play.

That's all for today. I've got some gaming to do...

Scary Games on a Scary Night

At around 5 o'clock this evening, my home will be invaded by roving packs of ghosts, ghouls, superheroes, various movie characters, and kids dressed up in low-budget, crappy costumes. Thankfully, any zombies I see will be looking for candy as opposed to brains. And I'm giving out the good candy: none of that brown taffy crap that others love to give out. My wife and I give out chocolate - the name-brand stuff!

But Hallowe'en isn't just about candy: it's also about being scared sh*tless. Some people watch scary movies. And others, like us gamers, play scary games. Are you looking for some scary games to play tonight? Check out my top 3 picks after the jump.

Condemned 2: Bloodshot: Fight off crazy hobos, black goo monsters, and rabid bears with a variety of weapons including guns, boards with nails in them, and even bigger boards with bigger nails in them.

Dead Space: Take on the role of Isaac, an engineer, stranded on a crippled mining ship dripping with gore and filled with some pretty damned nightmarish monsters. Not only is this game scary as f*ck but it also got some pretty great reviews.

Silent Hill: Homecoming: What would Hallowe'en be without a little psychological damage? Silent Hill delivers the frights and chills that will give you nightmares for many months to come.

Have a safe and happy Hallowe'en everyone!

Christmas List 2008: Fallout 3

As I mentioned in a previous post, Fallout 3 was at the top of my Christmas List this year. I jumped the gun a little and bought the game a couple of days ago. So far, I've been extremely impressed with Fallout 3. I ended up playing far too late last night. I just couldn't put the game down.

But hey! Don't take my word for it. If you're not sure whether or not Fallout 3 is worth buying this holiday season, I've assembled some trailers (those I could still find) and video reviews for you after the jump.

Still not convinced? Check out these links:I'm quite happy with the choice of my number one game for this year's Christmas List. Fallout 3 is everything I'm looking for in an RPG. And it's more than I could possibly expect from top-notch, blockbuster video game release! I'd talk more but I've got a wasteland to explore...

Would you like to pick up a copy of Fallout 3 for yourself, a friend, or loved one? Feel free to use any of the links below to procure yourself a copy today!
