VOD:POD Brand New Widget

The guys at Vod:Pod have done it again, another great widget. I really like it, called the Video Wall. I know I go on about vod pod but it is very cool.

JubiiTV is a new site that from Lycos search folk in the UK. I've given it 1/10 for one simple reason. I clicked on the Lycos link on JubiiTV and was immediately taken to the front page declaring I could see naked babes on line and that it was Throbbing Thursday. Now do not get me wrong I am far from a prude and adult entertainment has its place. I have no problem with that. I do have a problem with adult themes being sprung on the reader or internet user. I will not recommend any site that without warning subjects the user to inappropriate material. My 3 year old is starting to use the internet and I don't want her seeing this material.
I like to support new ventures but not this one. As it is it is a good implementation of the standard video share site. I'd put it in the Good but not different category, just like another TV talent Show.

Jumpcut this is one of many new upload edit and share sites that are springing up. This works and is very cool. On my computer and connection it runs at a snails pace which is very limiting. I also think it has been hijacked by the greens! Nothing against environment awareness all good, just that the top most viewed videos all had a conservationist theme and I'm a variety man. All that said I just love this clip.


I should say that this site is in Beta and that could account for the slowness. I do think this kind of thing is cool. As a professional I'm very precious about other people messing with my work!!! Not that I am Steven Spielberg or anything! But there is a feature called remix which allows anyone to play around with your edit. Its a fun site and the share , email and embed functions all work well.

It cute isn't it, although the quality difference from my original is poor . Video Egg is every inch a video upload site. They host your video on their server and you can send where ever, its the share option. I've embeded the video using HTML as Blogger wont support Java in posts. I should, i think, be able to uplaod direct to Blogger. Eveytime I try the Video Egg sofware just tells me passsword and user name not recognized. Hey its probably me, but the point is I cant resolve the issue with the online documentation. The other issues are no support for fire fox and on my mac the menue fly out isn't very stable, it flashes around and the select of text to cut and paste the html is very sticky.

If I'm honest there is a lot to annoy me about Video Egg. I want to find out very quickly what I can do with it and how. It just won't let me. I'm not daft and I do this all the time so I can only say the site is not giving me the information I need quickly and easily.

Veoh

Veoh is a P2P site, you down load their player and you can watch the video on their site from anywhere in the world provided a veoh player is installed on the computer.
The content is Ok but it some of it falls into the professional video clip area. these are not always that professional, they can be quirky and sometimes entertaining but at worst are "student videos" which means they can be a little self indulgent.
The player is quite good because it will allow you to watch the whole of a series without having to search for the separate episodes. If you want to uplaod video and distribute your own content you can and they will monetize your content. It works on the you own it and they take a cut of your revenue.

I'm not going to mark this because I've not really played with the service enough. I would say the content gets 6 out of 10. mainly by virtue of the US episodes of the office.
YOu can see that the player is the lagest reviewed so far it's fast to load and it really seems to have great quality.

Video Egg Looks like a great site and a great service. Unfortunately the site is down for an upgrade at the moment so I can't review it. The promise is very interesting. I hope the upgrade completes soon and I'll bring you the latest

VOD:POD Widget update

My favorite video widget and clip share site has updated its widget. side bar 2 looks like this.

Now thats interesting, I have just tried to publish this post and the sidebar 2 widget wont display the new boarder-less window format. Its interesting because I don't know why and because I have it working very well on another site a I write. I will investigate with VOD;POD.

So VOD:POd have been in touch, glad to see they read my blog! It seems they can see the correct boarderless widget. Which would point to the problem being my browser which is the latest firefox running on a mac. Let me know what you see, boarderless sexy thumbnails = v2 a white background and you are seeing V1.

Part of the reason VOD POD is so cool is that they are so onto these issues and talk to their VOD PODers. 10 out of 10

They have also provided an option to change the css of the template for direct inclusion to your own code.

I really like this site, there not much to define it as individual. All the usual things here, share, comment group, lists. The one click publishing is very good and works across lots of platforms. I don't like using these things because I have to disclose my password to post on my blog. I think the content is good on the site. Lots of original stuff and quite a few funny clips do help set this site above others.

Joost

What is Joost? Asks the web site, and the answer is

Joost is a new way of watching TV on the internet. With Joost, you get all the things you love about TV, including a high-quality full-screen picture, hundreds of full-length shows and easy channel-flipping.

Well the site is very cool JOOST and what really is joost? Well its just about all it says. It also crashed my mac until I unplugged all my external firewire devices. I'm a beta tester and they would say that's what a beta release is for, I agree and I am sure that the people of joost will have the issues sorted out on release of the programme proper.

It is obvious that a lot of money has been and is being spent to get the delivery of this flavour of internet TV right, there is going to be a lot of money made by the companies that get it right and those that don't will crash and burn very quickly. The actual programme feels like all the media center type software on the market, apple TV, Microsoft media centre etc. Clearly the powers that be have, perhaps unwittingly, created a standard for the navigation around the content.

The companies that survive will have to have a system works first time and delivers great content. At the moment there is not enough content to keep me interested in joost. I'm probably not the target market but I need quality content, it will come and this is the beta so for now the jury is out. The promise of Joost is great if it's fulfilled or not we'll wait and see - that's why I've not rated it.

Oh just one thing if you pay for you download by the MB this will cost you! It will also eat your hard drive space!

Just an aggregation of material from other sites. Yes the categorization is Ok. But there is not much new stuff here. You can rate the videos and that willl generate lists but really not much elso to keep me here.

Daily Motion Not a personal favorite I must declare. I think it is the fact that there is a not a lot of user generated content and loads of clips and promos from broadcast shows, so it lacks originality. Sure it all works and the category navigation is very good. But you know its all about content and this clip from a UK show called "Drop the Dead Donkey" that was canned years ago ( it was a great show of its time) but its not a funny clip and its not at all new. Yrt this was in one of the nost popular tagged section. Who am I to go against public opinion, than again that is the job of this blog.

Blip TV is basically a revenue share sight based on advertising revenue. You uplaod your video and chose how and what you want advertised. They will then add an advert and the beginning middle or end of you video. They then split the revenue with you 50/50 and you keep copyright and ownership, that way they don't get sued if you say something defamatory. The site appeals more to the semi pro video creative with many of the offerings running in series. Goodnight Burbank is one of the more popular shows. It a parady on the news industry.
The site has some pretty cool stuff interms of content and gadgets. Their distribution method is very cool allowing you to send you video to multiple locations. The player works well and will cope with just about any format at the uplaod. I found the site a little slow but It may just have been a bad day on the net!

Revver Update - Revver Widget wont show on Blogger

Can't see it? That's because I'm using blogger and the widget won't work on blogger. I've emailed support at Revver to find out why. It works on self hosted wordpresss go to Network utube and you can see it in action. I'll update you once I here from the support team at Revver.

Yahoo! Video

I like Yahoo video, easily the largest size player and it is scalable, as you enlarge the window the video player seamlessly grows in size. Not always a good thing if you had a fairly low rez video in the first place, they look great until you enlarge them. The interface is great but I would say the search engine is not great. And the site seems hard to navigate around. That said this site with a very American feel has some really top material on it. Like so many things on the net you do just have to find the one place that is most in tune with your own taste and stick to it.

One big negative for collectors and users of VOD:POD, many of the videos can't be embedded they stream from the original source - mostly new uploads.

Meta Cafe

Meta Cafe is another Rewards site, You upload, we watch and they pay. You have to get 20,000 views to start and then they pay $1000,

• 200,000 views = $1,000
• 2 million views = $10,000

This video has had 5 million views earning over $20,000 for the person who up loaded it. Impressive stuff, I do like the interface and site it seems quite easy to get navigate around. Does it work, yes I guess for some you just need that special something and some luck. I've seen videos that are much more compelling that this one but they are not on the site. The other thing is that the clip owner retains all rights to the clip which is great, you can sell it on or use it anywhere else. But do not upload clips you don't own, you will get black listed and earn zilch.

Its hard to embed from this supplier and the embed close tag stopped my posting the clip for a while.
