comme ci, comme ça

Leaked images of the Comme des Garçons collection for H&M have been floating around online for a short while now. From pictures posted over at Fashionista.com, I see a lot of quirky boyish cuts, very low drop crotches, and overall kurorori-inspired looks. The look almost reminds me of gothic Lolita meets Clockwork Orange--girly innocence gone sinister bad.

There's something intriguing about Rei's collection. I like it and feel strangely drawn to it, but at the same time I'm having a very hard time imagining the H&M crowd being receptive to these pieces.

What do you think? Are you excited for the Comme des Garçons guest collection?

Confession: I Like CB2 Too Much

To take advantage of MA tax-free weekend, I bought these chemistry-beaker-inspired longneck vases that I've been eyeing for months now. CB2 is probably my favourite furniture store to browse through online. With contemporary and creative options for very reasonable prices, CB2 is freakin' awesome.

Is it just me, or does the site of chemistry lab glassware in the kitchen (eg Erlenmeyer flasks as vases, long neck flasks as decanters) just make you giddy?

An Abomination

Yes.

Now for $50.00 you can buy a pair of these high-heel Crocs.

Screw global warming. Screw record low congressional approval ratings. THIS is the problem.

I also found this article from Newsweek (about Crocs) to be a delightful read.

Stay sane. Don't wear Crocs.

Feeling Boyish, Feeling Prep

I've been searching for a boy blazer for quite some time now. My target was something one-of-a-kind, high quality material, feminine-masculine cut, and great price. A tough combo especially with the "great price" factor thrown in. Urban Outfitters came to the rescue with this adorable vintage boys blazer by Urban Renewal for a very reasonable $58.

Fail 2.

Hmm.

Top: John Galliano Fall 2008 RTW
Bottom: The Knife

Fail.

It's been a while since the Fall 2008 RTW shows, but today I felt like browsing through some of the collections again to give them a fresh second look. While doing this, I also happened to run across NY Mag's "100 Most Fabulous Looks." However, what I found even more entertaining was their "100 Most Hideous Looks." Classic.

A quick preview of some of my favourites for the women's and men's collections:

Please do take a look at their slideshow--NY Mag has really picked some amazing winners. I know this list seems cruel, and it's never nice to poke fun at people, but this is an important lesson for all of us: High fashion can get ugly. Very ugly.

And sometimes the ugly comes in duos, which would technically make it doubly ugly (doubugly?), but let's multiply and say it's quadruply ugly. Sigh.

Let's all hope for a more prosperous and beautiful 2009. Amen.

Splurging on the Classics

While I was in Toronto for a conference (which kicked complete arse, by the way), I lost my favourite pair of sunglasses: A pair of ultra cheap plastic knock-offs of Ray Ban wayfarers in black from ASOS. I bought them for $5 on sale from ASOS last year and have been wearing them far more than any other pair of sunglasses I own. So I was a bit bummed about losing them.

I'm an extremely thrifty person, but I am seriously considering buying a pair of Ray Ban Wayfarers. I've never spent over $100 for a pair of sunglasses, but I figure...it's a classic look, versatile and compatible with just about anything. I'm probably going to wear the heck out of them, so yes or no? Gahh...cheap me.

I Can't Help Myself...But

OK, so the truth comes out. I am a dental student (but don't worry, I like lots of other cool things besides teeth). And when I was browsing through Alex + Chloe, I found the hottest accessory for any dental student or dentist:

The website says it's a "Tooth pendant in 14K gold on a 14K gold chain." Actually, it's a mandibular molar, but specifics aside, isn't this just WOW? It also sells at a hefty price of $500. That's one darn expensive molar.

Holy Moly, The Resemblance...

In case anyone still wants a pair of those contrast peep toe angular heels from the Chloe Spring 2008 RTW collection, you can buy the exact pairs at Forever 21. I kid you not. Compare and contrast:

Forever 21's "CZ-3 Patent Peeptoe"
The truth:
I was very tempted to buy these F21 knockoffs since they're only $27.80. In fact, I already added a pair to my F21 basket. I figured, what the heck, if they turned out to be beyond fug, I could always use it as a postmodern design piece for my apartment (peep toe wedge on coffee table, anyone?). But reality struck . . . if 6 foot supermodels can't even pull them off without looking clunky (see Karlie Kloss below), then there's no way in this world I can pull them off without making people think I am going to a clogging event.

Happy shopping gals!
