Cross your fingers Vikings fans, your defense is going to need a miracle to get out of this one. Three main players on the Vikings are facing big time suspensions - Jared Allen, Pat Williams and Kevin Williams, over issues with testing positive for a diuretic and a hit in a game last week vs the Packers.

The pair of Williams will talk to league officials today about testing positive for a weight-loss diuretic that is on the list of substances banned by the league. As for Allen, he’ll talk to them about a hit on Aaron Rodgers during the Vikings home win a week ago Sunday that could have him suspended as well.

Gab site editor Matt Loede catches up with Steelers CB Ike Taylor just moments after the Steelers beat the Chargers Sunday in a wild 11-10 victory at Hinez Field.  Matt talks to Taylor about the effort, the big outing from the defense, the defensive play against the Chargers Philip Rivers and the run game, and the short week coming up for the team as they get set for the Bengals Thursday night.  Click below to hear a few minutes of Matt Loede w/ Ike Taylor.

NFC Top 5
—————-

1. NY Giants (1)
- The G-Men showed the big bad Ravens how they play football in the NFC East on Sunday at the Meadowlands.  They ran for over 200 yards on them, and beat them up physically on each and every play.  Eli Manning did what he was asked, and overall it was a complete win.  This team right now would be letdown with anything other than a second straight trip to the Super Bowl.

2. Arizona (3) - The Cards took on a team that had usually given them nightmares over the years, the Seahawks, and built a big lead and got a big INT at the end to hold on.  Kurt Warner is going to get a lot of votes for MVP, and it’s amazing to think that at some point they were going to give the QB job to Matt Leniart.

3. Carolina (2) - The Panthers ground game led them to a big win at home over the Lions, a team that played like it had nothing to lose and had an early lead.  Now they have their biggest test of the year, a road game at Atlanta to basically lock up the NFC South with a win as they will have the tie-breaker.  They still have Tampa Bay as well, another big game on the docket later this year.

As it goes so many times in the NFL, the final game of week 11 came down to one kick. One kick that was successful for Cleveland, and one that wasn’t for the Buffalo Bills. And with that, the slim playoff hopes of the Browns remained with a 29-27 victory that puts them at 4-6, dropping the Bills to 5-5.

The game came down to a pair of kicks in the end. Browns kicker Phil Dawson nailed a career-high 56-yard boot that put the Browns up by two with 1:39 left. The Bills took the kickoff and marched down to the Cleveland 29 with a pass play from Trent Edwards to Robert Royal for 22 yards, then three runs gaining five yards total for Marshawn Lynch. Rian Lindell, who is usually money in tight squeezes, pushed a 47-yard field goal wide right with 38 seconds left that could have put the Bills up 30-29.

Two kneel downs later, and Brady Quinn and the Browns saved themselves from history. If Cleveland would have lost the game, it would have set a record for the third straight loss for a team that at one-point in the game led by at least 13. The Browns led 13-0 at the 9:52 mark of the second quarter, only to have the Bills make it a three-point game at the half at 13-10.

Oh no he didn’t. Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb, for whatever reason, didn’t realize that NFL games can - and sometimes do - end in ties. I would’ve loved to have been the fly on the wall when McNabb tried to explain this one away. Trust me folks, this is classic stuff. To see the clip, click here.

The Green Bay Packers made things a lot more interesting in the NFC North, handling the Bears 37-3 at Lambeau Field. With the Minnesota Vikings losing 19-13 at Tampa Bay, the Bears, Vikings, and Packers are all now posting records of 5-5 to make for a very interesting playoff race.

The defending division champs (Packers) have been very inconsistent thus far losing their last two games by a combined 4 points, before beating Chicago.

They have also dealt with some key injuries in losing cornerback Al Harris earlier in the season, and now linebacker Nick Barnett for the rest of the year. But after being swept by the Bears last year, Green Bay gained some redemption disrupting seemingly everything Chicago threw at them.

Chicago finds themselves trying to rebound off a game where Kyle Orton showed just how vulnerable he is to an injury he suffered two weeks ago. Now after winning two games, they must now look for answers on how to end this two game skid they have succumbed to.

Remember the old movie, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid with Paul Newman and Robert Redford? Butch and Sundance are on the run, being chased by a tenacious posse they just can’t shake. Finally, Butch looks over at Sundance — or vice versa — and says in absolute awe, “Who are those guys!” I think of that every week as I watch the Giants beat the crap out of whoever they’re playing — “Who are those guys!”

And, remember just about any old Errol Flynn swashbuckler movie like Robin Hood or Captain Blood or The Sea Hawk? At the end of each movie, Flynn always sword-fights the bad guy — someone like Basil Rathbone — and, invariably, swats Rathbone’s sword out of his hand and is poised to run the him through. But, instead, he laughs playfully and allows Rathbone to retrieve his sword. Then, finally disarming him again, he does run him through. I think of this too when I watch the Giants.

Yesterday, the Giants rang up 207 rushing yards on a Ravens team that was giving up only 65 yards rushing per game — en route to a 30-10 victory. For the entire first half, the Giants ‘O’ imposed their collective will on the Raven’s ‘D’ while, the Giant’s ‘D’ stuffed the Raven’s ‘O.’ But, then, on the final drive of the half, about to “run the Ravens through” by ringing up another TD to go up 27-3, Eli throws the ball to Ray Lewis.

As was expected, the refs are saying “sorry” for the mistake at the end of yesterday’s Steelers 11-10 win over the Chargers. The apology was for the error at the end of the game, where the refs should have allowed the Steelers TD on the last play of the game when the ball was knocked away on a lateral by Steelers safety Troy Polamalu, who took it for what appeared to be a touchdown.

The refs, who on the day threw 13 flags against the Steelers to just two for the Chargers, huddled up before the team kicked the extra point. They at first said the TD was good, and the Steelers would be up 17-10 with an extra point coming. But then, they talked again, and for some reason came up with that the play should have ended because the Chargers threw an illegal forward pass.

Upon looking at the replay, it was obvious that it was not a forward pass, and that the TD should have counted. “We should have let the play go through in the end, yes,” ref Scott Green said. “It was misinterpreted that instead of killing the play, we should have let the play go through.”
