Dirty Jobs “Egg Farm” premieres Tuesday at 9pm ET/PT on Discovery Channel.
Revolutionary Road, Leonardo DiCaprio, Kate Winslet
Revolutionary Road is a new movie that has been adapted from Richard Yates’ novel. It is an incisive portrait of an American marriage seen through the eyes of Frank (three-time Academy Award® nominee Leonardo DiCaprio) and April (five-time Academy Award® nominee Kate Winslet) Wheeler.
Driven to change their fates, April hatches an audacious plan to start all over again, to leave the comforts of Connecticut behind for the great unknown of Paris. But when the plan is put in motion, each spouse is pushed to extremes – one to escape whatever the cost, the other to save all that they have, no matter the compromises.
On Election Night, Dirty Jobs takes a bi-partisan look at Presidents’ dirty pasts
Tuesday, Nov 4 at 10pm E/P on Discovery Channel
On the day the country decides who will be our next President, Discovery Channel’s DIRTY JOBS with Mike Rowe gets the real dirt behind the White House. For the special Dirty Presidents episode airing Tuesday, November 4 from 9-10PM ET/PT, Mike pays tribute to our dirtiest of Presidents – the ones who were as comfortable in the muck as they were in the Oval Office.
For the special, Mike relates past experiences he’s had on DIRTY JOBS with the past lives and pastimes of Presidents – from James Polk, who hosted the first ever White House Thanksgiving turkey dinner (Mike recalls his famous “turkey insemination” episode), to Harry S. Truman, who worked on his family farm and once said, “No man should be allowed to be President who doesn’t understand hogs” (Mike remembers his “pig shaver” experience). Other DIRTY JOBS episodes that relate back to our former Presidents’ dirty pasts include Rodent Control, BBQ Smoking, Salt Mining, Alligator Egg Collecting and more, offering a completely new way to look at the highest office in the land.
Additionally throughout Discovery’s November 4 primetime schedule, from 8 to 11PM ET/PT, the network will air 12 “Dirty Politics” segments (four per hour) that give surprising insight into the actual dirty jobs held by past presidents – from janitor (James Garfield) to tannery worker (Ulysses S. Grant) and butcher (Abraham Lincoln).
Leech Trapper - Tuesday, Oct. 28 at 9pm ET/PT on Discovery Channel
Mike heads to Waubun, Minnesota to team up with the boys from Bartos Bait & Fish to catch leeches that will later be sold for fish bait. Unfortunately for him and the crew, catching leeches is done in a remote lake where the main prey seems to be humans – with mosquitoes the predator! Once the traps are emptied, they head back to the shop to learn how to separate and package the leeches for resale. Then, Mike heads to the Green Tripe factory in Hollister, California where he helps make B.A.R.F. (Biologically Appropriate Raw Food) for dogs.

Launch of world’s first themed interest web TV service
The Swedish and UK based web-TV company factualTV introduces the first global television service solely focused on TV programs within specific subject areas carrying great commercial potential. The company currently has global licenses for more than 2,500 titles of factual and lifestyle programs and documentaries.
factualTV’s concept is to identify specific subjects within factual television where commercial potential exists for both viewers and advertisers. Based on this, factualTV will create thematic sections only containing programs within the specific area. Examples of some of these sections are UFO, Pets, Adventure and World War II.
- We are following the trend within traditional television towards ever more niched channels. We take this one step further by introducing specific thematic sections within our service FactualTV. These sections are marketed internationally over the Internet to the respective target groups, says Daniel Hill, CEO of factualTV.
Another reason why factualTV focuses on factual television programs is to optimize the possibilities for subject search, which is the natural behavior of online users. The users can easily find factual television programs within their specific topic of interest through search engines or directly at www.factualtv.com.
- Our focus on niche subjects creates an attractive environment for advertisers and a simple method of marketing sections or channels towards interested target groups. For example, factualTV makes it possible to market its own adventure section to adventure sites, and create partner alliances with on-line magazines based on some or all of our content, says Daniel Hill.
factualTV strives for simplicity in its service, which is completely web-based. This means the user is not required to download any software to watch a TV program.
- It’s easy for a visitor to get started without any prior knowledge of how factualTV works. The user can access the webpage and start watching programs immediately, says Daniel Hill.
factualTV, now launching its Beta version, is already the world’s largest pure factual television service with more than 2,500 titles and global license agreements with over 20 international distribution and production companies, and television channels.
- Today’s Beta version will continue to be developed. A full-scale version, with subject related sections will be launched in the beginning of 2009, Daniel Hill explains.
factualTV is financed by private equity and supported by investors from Scandinavia and other countries. The largest shareholder and co-founder is Anders Palm, media producer and businessman based in the UK.

Leech Trapper, October 28 at 9PM
Mike heads to Waubun, Minnesota to team up with the boys from Bartos Bait & Fish to catch leeches that will later be sold for fish bait. Unfortunately for him and the crew, catching leeches is done in a remote lake where the main prey seems to be humans – with mosquitoes the predator! Then, Mike heads to the Green Tripe factory in Hollister, California where he helps make B.A.R.F. (Biologically Appropriate Raw Food) for dogs.
Other jobs tackled by Mike in this 11-episode run include breaking down mobile homes; creating mannequins out of a gunky glop of resin and plastic; sorting and cleaning eggs for market; removing chemicals from dirty soil to sterilize it; relocating cacti; making bologna; farming gourds; and plugging abandoned mines.
To good natured guinea pig Rowe, those jobs are all part of an honest day’s work. Having conducted over two hundred jobs (and counting!) since DIRTY JOBS premiered in 2005, he has found a hands-on way to pay tribute to a nation of unsung heroes … and get more than a few laughs along the way.
The series is produced by Pilgrim Film & Television; Craig Piligian is executive producer. For Discovery Channel, Gena McCarthy is executive producer.
