جو دیکھتے تری زنجیر زلف کا عالم
اسیر ہونے کی آزاد آرزو کرتے

بیاضِ گردنِ جاناں کو صبح کہتے جو ہم
ستارہء سحری تکمہء گلُو کرتے

یہ کعبہ سے نہیں بے وجہ نسبتِ رخ ِیار
یہ بے سبب نہیں مردے کو قبلہ رُو کرتے

سکھاتے نالہء شب گیر کو در اندازی
غمِ فراق کا اس چرخ کو عدو کرتے

وہ جانِ جاں نہیں آتا تو موت ہی آتی
دل و جگر کو کہاں تک بھلا لہو کرتے

نہ پوچھ عالمِ برگشتہ طالعی آتش
برستی آگ، جو باراں کی آرزو کرتے

جاتا ہے یار تیغ بہ کف غیر کی طرف
اے کشتۂ ستم تری غیرت کو کیا ہوا

تھی صَعت عاشقی کی ہدایت ہی میرؔ پر
کیا جانیے کہ حالِ نہایت کو کیا ہوا
