How does Blog Top SItes work?
The short version is - we track the number of unique visitors that visit your blog. The more visitors you get, the higher you rank. You can find out more information here.
How often does the list get updated?
We update the rankings once an hour. Once a week (Sunday) we set everyone's count to zero - this gives everyone a fair chance of reaching the top.
My other stats program have different numbers
We track every hit based on an image loading. Furthermore, we can only track pages you have the Top Sites image on. Due to how pages load and whatever mechanism your other stats program uses (likely JavaScript), there will be discrepency.
What is a Unique Visitor?
This refers to a person who has visited your blog. Even if they visit 100 times in one day, they only get counted once.
Our time period for this is a day - if someone visits your blog today, and then again tomorrow, that gets counted as two unique visitors.
What are Page Views?
This refers to the number of pages your blog displayed to visitors. If Person X visits your blog and views 12 pages, and Person Y visits your blog and views 3 pages - that means two unique visitors, and 15 page views.
Page views are a rough way of knowing how interested people are in looking over your blog.
What are Total Hits Out?
This refers to the number of clicks we have sent to your blog. So if your Total Hits Out is 1000 - it means your link has been clicked 1000 times from this site.
